Morgan Everett Press Release – September 2008

NEW ALTERNATIVE TO LANDFILL

Morgan Everett, the Hampshire engineering company, is introducing PyroPure® a new waste
handling system that removes the need for waste to go to landfill sites and cuts out the collection
and transportation process completely.
PyroPure® is being showcased for the first time at the Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition
at the National Exhibition Centre from 16th – 18th September. Morgan Everett has teamed up with
Connaught Environmental Limited, to offer the system for handling waste from social housing.
The system puts the management of waste firmly in the hands of the waste producer – whether a
social housing tenant, care home or a variety of other applications. PyroPure®offers a simple, quick
solution that avoids the need for bins and improves the local environment in terms of hygiene, smells
and appearance. The technology offers financial savings and can be installed rapidly.
PyroPure®, 2007 winner of the Carbon Trust and E-Synergy low carbon technology entrepreneur
award, offers an environmentally sustainable solution in avoiding the environmental damage caused
by transporting waste and depositing it in landfill sites. It is an ideal partner for recycling because it is
able to handle the non-recyclable, residual waste, and it can even be used to strip mixed wastes
down to leave glass and metal for recycling.
Ted Brown, Morgan Everett CEO, explained:
“Compared to other waste disposal plants, PyroPure® is an extremely small unit, only the size of a
chest-freezer. This enables it to be installed at the premises where the waste is produced, thereby
overcoming the need for collection, transport and disposal. Adoption of this solution will help to
reduce the vast quantities of commercial and municipal waste still going to landfill.”
PyroPure® is the brainchild of Howard Clarke, Morgan Everett Technical Director. He described the
technology:
“It is a unique thermal treatment that involves controlled heating of the waste, reducing it to less than
5% of its original weight and into a form that can be flushed into the sewer. In effect, PyroPure® is a
bin that reduces the waste and then empties itself.
“The product can handle a wide variety of biodegradable solid wastes. After several years of
laboratory development, including new, small-scale solutions for cleaning the exhaust fumes, the
unit is now entering field demonstrations for municipal waste in the UK and Spain and for clinical and
commercial waste in various locations.”
Iain Campbell, Morgan Everett Operations Director, summarized the feelings of the team that has
been developing the product:
“PyroPure® is a stunning piece of technology, combining a unique thermal treatment with modern
filtration techniques. The opportunity to work on such a product comes round only once in a lifetime
and it is great to believe in what you are doing and to know that it is for the good of the planet.”
